If you have a truck with four-wheel drive, a snow plow and a garage to store both, you likely have all the necessary tools to launch a home based snow plowing business.
Depending on where you reside, especially in the northern U.S., you likely will find sufficient work during storms like the recent snowfall that blanketed the U.S. northeast.
To turn your resources into a viable business, you'll need to:
- Calculate your expenses from tires to gas to maintenance of your equipment.
- Set your prices based on making enough profit over your costs and taking into account the amount of time you will be spending on the job or en route to customers.
- Market your business by talking to neighbors about your services, distributing flyers especially during the winter months and even setting up a simple Website or blog with information on your radius or service and prices.

GReat idea, snow plowing especially in the mid-west is a real money maker during the cold inter months. SOme other ideas would be a landscaing business, or even a painting business, both are easy to learn and you can do them by your self.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for your comments. Yes, both of these seem like viable options and I guess snow plowing came to mind because of all the heavy snow here in the northeastern US these last few days. We'll be coming up with some other great home based business options in future posts so I hope you'll keep reading.

Hey... I took that picture! Glad you found it useful.
As someone who is new to living in a snowy climate, I'm the last person who should start a home business based on snow removal. I may live in New Hampshire now, but I moved there from Arizona. Not too much snow... last thing anyone needs is me driving one of those big plows around.
