Elizabeth A. (“Liz”) Nielsen, 17, of Bethlehem, graduated from Liberty High School, Bethlehem, on Wednesday, June 3, 2009.
A picnic in her honor was held on Saturday, July 11, at the home of her aunt in Bethlehem. The event was attended by approximately 60 friends as well as paternal and maternal relatives.
The large buffet-style meal included hot dogs and hamburgers freshly grilled outdoors by her father, Bill Nielsen; roast beef and ham sandwiches; a variety of salads; and a full sheet of half vanilla-half chocolate cake. Homemade desserts included crescent butter cookies, chocolate-cream cheese bars, and nutroll.
A member of Liberty’s pipe corps, Liz and fellow piper Krysden Schantz of Bethlehem regaled guests with a few selections on their bagpipes. One of Liz’s fondest high school memories is of traveling with the pipe corps to the 2008 Rose Bowl Parade in California.
Her other interests include cooking, baking, listening to music, and playing video games.
Liz will begin as a full-time student at Northampton Community College in the fall.
