ArtsQuest Members' Show to Run Through January

Bethlehem, Pa. -- A wide range of artwork by ArtsQuest members is showcased during the “Annual ArtsQuest Members’ Show” now through Jan. 20, 2010, in the Banko Family Gallery of ArtsQuest’s Banana Factory, 25 W. Third St., Bethlehem.

The ArtsQuest Members’ show highlights some of the many talented individuals who support ArtsQuest’s arts and cultural programming throughout the year, helping to enrich the community. The juried exhibition features a variety of mediums by professional and amateur artists from throughout the Lehigh Valley.

“ArtsQuest is an organization that truly values our membership,” says ArtsQuest Director of Visual Arts and Education Janice Lipzin. “It’s their dedication and passion that help to keep us alive and on target with our mission to celebrate arts and culture and make the arts accessible to everyone in the community. Many of our members are artists themselves, so it’s a real pleasure to exhibit their latest work.”

Banko Family Gallery shows are underwritten by ServiceMaster by Round the Clock Cleaning, in association with The Morning Call. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. A reception for the members’ show will be held 6-9 p.m. Nov. 6, during the arts center’s First Friday celebration.

The Banana Factory is a nonprofit cultural arts and education center featuring 28 studio artists, the GlassWorks glass studio, community classrooms, and a gift shop. The arts center offers diverse outreach programs, arts-in-education programs, classes, and workshops throughout the year. Its mission is “to kindle, support, and celebrate the artistic, cultural, and creative spirit of the Lehigh Valley.”

Patrick McIvor Joins Matrix as Artistic Color Director

New York –- Karrie Fonte, Assistant Vice President of U.S. Education for Matrix, a division of L’Oreal USA, announces the appointment of Patrick McIvor as Matrix Artistic Color Director, starting June 1, 2009. McIvor is owner of patrick mcivor color studio, Bethlehem, Pa., and studio two, Allentown, Pa. He is among the most respected colorists in the industry, having been named “Best Colorist” by Allure magazine.

McIvor will join the Matrix Artist Network and continue in the tradition of Arnie Miller by providing industry leading salon-based ideas and techniques geared toward helping salon professionals transform their passion for beauty into professional success. McIvor specializes in innovative salon-based haircolor techniques that inspire hairdressers to achieve great color. He will also spotlight the Matrix C.R.A.F.T. philosophy with hands-on, interactive, self-empowering education focusing on communication, resources, approach, foundation, and technique.

Brew Works Event to Benefit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

“Evening at the Brew Works”—a beer-and-wine-sampling event paired with dinner—will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Allentown Brew Works, 812 Hamilton St., Allentown, to benefit  the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

A silent auction will also be held.

'First International Day of Climate Action' Events Set for Oct. 24

The Alliance for Sustainable Communities-Lehigh Valley will celebrate the First International Day of Climate Action in the Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009. Businesses, civic associations, governmental bodies, schools, labor unions, environmental organizations, city planners, green builders, energy savers, farmers, and scholars are invited to participate.

Events are as follows:

• 9 a.m.: “Art Walk for the Climate” begins at Fifth and Hamilton, Allentown, and ends at New Street, Bethlehem.

• 1 p.m.: World Café action talk hosted by Joris Rosse will be held in Room 605 at Northampton Community College’s Fowler Center, 511 E. Third St., Bethlehem.

• 7 p.m.: Showing of the film “City 21: Multiple Perspectives of Urban Futures” at Northampton Community College’s Fowler Center will be followed by a talk-back session by award-winning filmmaker Christopher Zelov.
